The Program

Over Terms 1 and 2 of 2016 I am out of the classroom, hosted by a Scientist as I complete the Science Teaching Leadership Programme.

This programme is funded by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, and is administered by the Royal Society of New Zealand.

I am being hosted by Senior Lecturer and Ornithologist Mel Galbraith in the Natural Sciences Department at Unitec Institute of Technology. During my placement I will be participating in a range of Scientific activities to raise my awareness of scientific theory and its application to scientific investigation and ecology.

Throughout the programme I am aiming to:
  • gain an understanding of the Nature of Science Curriculum strand
  • develop my leadership skills through leadership training
  • facilitate the improvement of science teaching and student learning school-wide upon my return to school in July 2016.
